Tragic Royal Engineer Terry Stevenson, based in Maidstone, named as victim of crash in Cranbrook Road in Hawkhurst

A biker who died hours after being hit by a car in Hawkhurst was a soldier, it has emerged today.

Terry Stevenson was hit by a Ford Fiesta in Cranbrook Road after he came off his motorbike at about 5.25pm on Monday.

The 35-year-old, who worked for the Royal Engineers based in Maidstone, was taken to Tunbridge Wells Hospital in Pembury but died shortly after 7.15pm.

The crash happened in Cranbrook Road, Hawkhurst

An inquest into his death was opened this morning and adjourned until Wednesday, April 30.

The road was closed while emergency services worked at the scene and reopened at 9.10pm

The driver of the car was not injured.

Police want to hear from anyone who saw the crash or the vehicles shortly before the crash.

Witnesses are urged to phone the Kent Police Serious Collision Investigation Unit on 01622 798538.
