Campaigners from Kent have joined thousands from around the UK for a mass lobby at Westminster over climate change.

Protestors from across the county have headed to the rally - dubbed The Time is Now - which is lobbying MPs to lower greenhouse gas emissions.

WWF say the world is in the greatest environmental crisis ever faced and wildlife populations have plummeted by 60% over the past 40 years.

Protestors are hoping today's protest will be the biggest of its kind as they call on MPs to take action.

It comes as Gravesham Borough Council has become the latest authority to declare a climate change emergency, setting a target to be carbon neutral by 2030.

Paul Hadaway, head of conservation delivery and partnerships at Kent Wildlife Trust, based in Maidstone, said: "This crisis has already moved from being something that was, at points in the past, theoretical and arguably avoidable to being very real.

"For us to continue kicking the can down the road and expecting younger generations to deal with that I think is desperately unfair."

Former Archbishop of Canterbury Lord Rowan Williams is also there.

He said: "We're told to see our material environment as part of the way God communicates with us.

"As Christians we believe in a God who naturally works in flesh and blood in the life of Jesus.

"So all of those things for me make it a real theological imperative."
