Tommy Warrilow is hoping his pre-season experiments will pay off when Tonbridge begin their Blue Square Bet South campaign next week.

The Tonbridge boss (pictured) has been testing new formations out in preparation for a whole new world when they kick-off at their highest level ever.

His side have just one game left in pre-season, against Maidstone on Saturday, before the campaign begins.

Warrilow said: "Last Saturday, against Hythe, we tried a new formation because I wanted to put some things into practice ahead of the new season. I was happy with the way it looked but there is still a bit to work on in training.

"We’ve tried a bit of everything with a few different systems. We know that throughout the season we may have to adapt to different systems and may need to be a little more adventurous at times.

"Going forward is our strength and we have a lot of quality in that area. It would be silly not to utilise it. We’re not going to be going gung-ho or anything but we don’t want to be sitting back and inviting pressure either. It’s important we get the right mix."

The game against Hythe ended 2-2, with a brace from Jon Main and Warrilow then took his side to Ashford United on Sunday, with an evening team-bonding session in between.

A number of trialists featured in Sunday’s match, which also ended 2-2.

"It gave me chance to have a longer look at some players," said the Angels boss.

Warrilow believes he is just about ready for the start of the season.

"There is maybe just one position I need to make my mind up on but I’m about 99.9 per cent sure what team I want to play in the opening match," he added."
