Tonbridge Angels boss Tommy Warrilow says Ryman League should have extended season after fixture chaos

Tommy Warrilow wouldn’t swap Tonbridge being involved in the race for the Ryman League play-offs but says the decision not to extend the season is "ridiculous."

The Longmead boss (pictured) took his side to fellow-contenders Wealdstone last night (Thursday) before a last day trip to another chasing side Aveley and admitted: "I would rather be doing this than playing for nothing. I’m sure it will all go down to the last games and could be decided to goal difference, with a couple of teams better off than us."

He added: "It’s ridiculous asking everyone at our level to play the amount of games we have in the past month. I think common sense should have prevailed because they knew this fixture pile-up was coming. I just hope the League learns from this in the future."

Tonbridge drew 1-1 at Hornchurch on Tuesday night, when Wealdstone and Aveley both dropped points, the latter again in action last night against Warrilow’s old club Horsham at Crawley.

He said: "We never got started (in the 2-0 defeat) against Boreham Wood but it was our first defeat in 15 games, so I didn’t tear into the boys afterwards. I’ll take some of the blame for it because I was looking to shuffle things around. I was about to take Scott Kinch off but then Liam Harwood was struggling.

"Scott was then sent-off for his second booking and they scored from the resulting free-kick, so we were down to 10 men and a goal down in the space of four minutes."

Defender Sonny Miles earned the point at Hornchurch but striker Paul Booth picked up a foot injury and Warrilow rates him doubtful for the weekend.

The Premier Division play-off semi-finals take place in midweek, with the winners due to meet on Saturday.
