A town centre street will be blitzed during a deep clean mission.

Maidstone Borough Council will be joining forces with One Maidstone BID to blitz Bank Street as part of an inaugural project this week.

In addition to their regular duties, MBC’s street cleansing team will be taking part in the first targeted cleansing event in Maidstone which is part of a scheme due to be expanded to cover other key areas across the borough.

Bank Street in Maidstone will be given a deep clean this week (11651552)

Works will include graffiti and gum removal, pigeon spike installation, repainting of street furniture and installing LED lights in alley ways.

John Edwards, MBC said: “Working in partnership with One Maidstone BID will prove a great opportunity to improve the visitors experience to the County Town. As part of the partnership we will provide regular deep cleans that will enhance the overall vision impact of the town centre and will exceed the current high cleansing standard we already have in place.”

The team will be working together to improve the look and smell of this busy area of the county town on Wednesday and will be focusing on Bank Street from Buenos Aires Restaurant in lower High Street up to The Brenchley public house.

The work will include the removal of all litter and rubbish, power wash of street, graffiti and gum removal and pigeon spike installation.

There will also be an investigation into temporary utility reinstatement works, A-board licensing visits, tables and chairs licensing visit and LED lights being installed in alley ways.

Ilsa Butler, from One Maidstone, said: “This is the first exercise of its kind which we hope will create a yard stick of the standard of cleanliness that we intend to achieve boundary wide.

"Cleanliness in the town centre is a priority for the businesses and as such is a priority for us.

"This is our chance to add an extra layer of polish to the services already provided by Maidstone Borough Council.”
