There was traffic misery for Maidstone motorists during the evening rush hour last night, compounded by a road accident in Allington and two broken down vehicles in the town centre.

The accident happened on the London Road close to the junction with Poplar Grove at just before 5.30pm.

A motorcyclist came off his bike and was treated at the scene by paramedics. No other vehicles were involved.

The A229 Loose Road was partially blocked when a vehicle broke down near the Armstrong Road junction.

There were also hold-ups around Fairmeadow when another car broke down near Staceys Street.
