Upper Stone Street in Maidstone at standstill tonight after lorry breaks down

A broken down lorry has caused gridlock in Maidstone tonight.

It happened earlier this afternoon on the A229 Upper Stone Street.

One lane had to be closed while the incident was dealt with and several police teams were on the scene to help manage traffic.

Kent Highways said the lorry was stuck between Brunswick House and Waterloo Street.

Congestion is back to the bridge system in the centre of town.

Kent Highways said all lanes have been re-opened.
