Southeastern train hits tree on line near Maidstone East

A train hit a tree on the line near Maidstone East, causing delays for train users.

Southeastern tweeted to say the train struck the fallen tree at 1.40pm.

The line between Bearsted and Maidstone East was blocked London-bound for around half an hour.

The driver jumped out of the cab and moved the tree out of the way before continuing the journey.

Delays have now cleared.

A Southeastern Spokesman said: "At around 13:30 today a train running from Ashford International to London Victoria struck a tree between Bearsted and Maidstone East.

"Network Rail worked as quickly as possible to remove the tree and get the line re-open.

"The train involved was delayed by around 30 mins."
