Travellers have pitched up in part of a town for the third time this year.

At least six caravans have set up in a car park next to Shepway Green with the first arriving at around 2pm yesterday.

A local youth club was cancelled last night however Nellie's Pre School has remained open.

Organisers of youth clubs at the Shepway Youth and Community Centre say they will make a judgement call on whether to postpone other clubs tomorrow.

The arrival comes two months after human waste was left in a football court and a caravan was burnt out on Shepway Green, following an encampment.

Maidstone Borough Council carried out welfare checks yesterday and this morning issued a Section 77 order giving the encampment 24 hours to leave.

A court date has already been booked in for tomorrow for the council to apply for stronger powers, should they be necessary.

Young children were allegedly pelted with rocks during an encampment on Shepway Green in June.

A group also turned up at a medical centre in Whitstable last night.
