The family of a man killed while cycling at the weekend have paid tribute to him.

Ernest Chennell, 85, originally from Horsmonden, died after colliding with a car as he was cycling near the White Hart Pub in Claygate, Marden, near Tonbridge on Sunday, October 10.

His family said in a tribute he had "a life well lived".

His only daughter Gwen said he had a passion for life and a kind spirit: “He was a very sociable man, and an integral part of the Collier Street community, having lived within a five mile radius of the village his whole life.

" People liked him and were drawn to him and he would always have time to sit and chat and tell you all his stories about his life working as a lorry driver.”

“Dad had a strong independent streak, and lived life well and to the full. We will miss him terribly."

Police are still investigating the incident, in which Mr Chennell’s cycle collided with a blue Renault Clio on Maidstone Road, close to the junction with Sheephurst Lane shortly after 10am.
