Fire crews were called out to two blazes during last night's strike.

In the first, in Tudor Avenue a fence was set alight in a rear garden when a bonfire got out of control.

It was put out by crews with hoses in around 20 minutes.

The second, which also happened at around 6.45pm, saw a fire engine scrambled to the M20 where a coach was alight.

The driver had already extinguished it by the time the crew arrived, and firefighters left shortly after.

It happened in the London-bound carriageway between J8 at Leeds and J9 for Ashford.

The strike happened between 5pm and 7pm and was part of an eight-day strike in a dispute about pensions.

Kent Fire and Rescue Service has made "contingency plans", but is urging the public to be extra cautious to avoid fires or emergencies.
