Two men are due in court after police fished a stolen handbag out of the river Medway in Tonbridge.
A 22-year-old woman, who had been at an engagement party at the Wharf Pub in Lyons Crescent, Tonbridge, reported that her bag and other items had gone missing from the upstairs function room on Sunday, October 20.
After searching the area, police arrested two men in The Slade. They then spotted a black and white handbag and pink mobile phone case floating in the river, 15ft from the edge.
Using a makeshift fishing rod, with a net borrowed from Tonbridge Swimming Pool, they were able to gather the items up.
Lennie Ianson, 20, from Hamble Road and a 17-year-old, also from Tonbridge, were later charged with burglary. They are said to have gone into the pub and taken the handbag, mobile phone, camera and a bottle of champagne.
Both were released on bail and are due to appear at Sevenoaks Magistrates Court on Tuesday.
