A man has been airlifted to hospital after a two-vehicle crash on the A249.

Emergency services closed the major route just after midday after a lorry and a van collided on the Maidstone-bound carriageway and one of the vehicles was reportedly flipped on to its roof.

The lorry driver was trapped in his cab and airlifted to King's College Hospital with chest injuries, while the driver of the van was taken by road to Medway Maritime hospital suffering from chest and shoulder pain.

The road was closed in both directions near junction 5 Stockbury Roundabout while emergency services dealt with the incident but was reopened just after 2pm.

Delays are still being reported in the area.
