Young people went to the polls this week in an election which will help them have a major say in countywide issues.

There were 48 seats on the Kent Youth County Council (KYCC) up for grabs, with 106 candidates fighting it out for votes. About 30,000 young people were expected to have their say at ballot boxes in schools across the county.

Anyone aged between 11 and 18 who lives in the Kent County Council area can stand for a seat on the council. Four are elected for each area.

They are consulted by KCC councillors and officers on topics, including education, transport, housing and entertainment and their views are taken into account on major decisions.

The results of the elections will be announced at County Hall, in Maidstone, on Saturday, November 28.
