Lorries are flouting a ban on 17-tonne vehicles driving through Leeds, sparking locals into action last week.

Malcolm Gallihawk was among villagers stopping HGVs driving on the the B2163.

The Upper Street resident said: "The road isn't for lorries. It's just not big enough.

“The road is wearing out, the council come in and resurface areas. It’s resurfaced and within days lorries will bring it up again. It can’t go on.

Residents held a lorry watch last Tuesday, picturing passing lorries, speaking to drivers and passing evidence to Kent Police.

The force said it was aware of residents frustrations.

A Kent Police spokesman said: "We would urge residents to continue to assist us to enforce this legislation by proactively taking details of prohibited vehicles seen driving on this road."
