Environment Agency releases River Beult flood alert which could affect Yalding, Collier Street, Headcorn, Benover, The Lees and Smarden

Villages around the River Beult have been placed on an overnight flood alert.

The warning covers the River Beult from Pluckley and Bethersden to Hampstead Lock at Yalding.

Water levels have already peaked in Smarden but are expected to rise in Yalding until the late evening.

Other areas that could see flooding are Headcorn, Collier Street, Benover and The Lees.

The Environment Agency says that alert will remain in force overnight but is likely to be removed tomorrow.
