Maidstone bridges one year on: What do you think?

By: Natalie Tipping

It's almost a year since a new road was opened which hoped to cut 74 seconds off journeys, but has it been as beneficial as first hoped?

The Maidstone bridges scheme started in June 2016, with the £5.7m works taking six months to add two new lanes northbound on the A229 Fairmeadow.

The lanes mean that drivers no longer have to go round the bridge system to continue north towards Chatham, and council bosses hoped this would shave 74 seconds off travel time along the A20 Broadway and A229 Bishops Way.

Lane closures were a common sight during the works. Picture: John Westhrop

But with months of jams throughout the works, along with lane closures and diversions, do the people who have to use the roads every day think it's had any effect?

Answer our poll below to let us know.
