A woman who attacked her father with a hammer, fracturing his skull, has been detained under the Mental Health Act.
Pooja Gurung was said to have been “deluded” when she struck her father Prasda about four times as he slept on March 24 2016.
A jury, as requested by the prosecution, found the 30-year-old, of Union Street, Maidstone, not guilty of causing grievous bodily harm with intent by reason of insanity.
Judge Martin Joy agreed at Maidstone Crown Court today to two psychiatrists’ recommendations to impose a hospital order without limit of time.
“She had a place in medical school to be a doctor,” said the judge. “It is a very distressing case.”
