A woman who fell to her death from her second-floor flat had previously suffered with a drink problem, a court has heard.

Emergency crews were called by a neighbour on August 3 last year after Julie Marsanic was spotted hanging from a balcony at Wallis Place in Maidstone.

She fell shortly after and despite attempts to resuscitate her by those living in the apartment complex, was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics.

Four police cars, three ambulances and the air ambulance were all scrambled to the site, just off Hart Street, just before 7pm that evening and remained present for several hours.

An inquest opening at the Archbishop's Palace was told the 59-year-old, who was born in Weymouth, had died after suffering a number of broken bones.

Chronic alcoholism was also reported as a contributing factor towards her death.

Neighbours in her block admitted at the time they rarely spoke with her.

Ms Marsanic had appeared before Maidstone Magistrates' Court in June 2017, charged with two counts of common assault.

The cases were dismissed but she was ordered not to contact the complainants for two years.

Assistant coroner Katrina Hepburn adjourned the full inquest until February 20.
