Charles Banya showed no nerves on his first Maidstone appearance since being knocked out by an opposition goalkeeper.

Banya, 22, returned to action a month on from the challenge by Basingstoke’s Aaron Howe that saw him spend two nights in hospital with concussion.

The winger made his comeback as a 74th-minute substitute as United won 2-1 at St Albans on Saturday to secure a National League South play-off spot.

His determination to track back and win an early challenge showed the former Fulham man hadn't been put off the physical side of the game.

He said: "With football, you kind of blank out everything and just enjoy it when you’re on the field. That’s the best way to get the best of you.

"I wasn’t expecting to come on to be honest but the gaffer spoke to me five minutes before and said to get ready, so it gave me a chance to prepare.

"I didn't really feel nervous. It was excitement to get back playing again.

"It's a great time to be back. We're in the play-offs and Sutton on Tuesday is a massive game."
