Alex Flisher could be back in a Maidstone shirt as soon as next month.
Flisher returned to full training on Tuesday night after nine months out with a knee injury.
Stones were targeting a Christmas comeback, but the forward believes he may be back sooner.
He said: “I think we’re looking at the end of October or early November. I go back to the physio next Thursday. Hopefully, that’ll be my last appointment and then I’m on my own.
“It’s been difficult being out for so long. I still need to be careful but I’m getting there.”
Stones boss Jay Saunders is urging caution but is delighted to have Flisher back training.
He said: “We’re slowly getting there with him. He’s doing well and I’m pleased for him. We set Christmas as the target. Anything before then is a bonus.”
Maidstone face Havant & Waterlooville at the Gallagher Stadium on Saturday as Saunders must decide between Jamie Coyle and fit-again Steve Watt at centre-half.
Stones then visit Maidenhead on Tuesday (7.45pm).
