In-form Maidstone striker Jay May is facing up to six weeks out with a calf injury.

United have reacted by making a seven-day approach for another forward ahead of their home game against Canvey Island on Saturday.

May limped out of the win over Bury last weekend and was sorely missed when United lost their unbeaten record at Tonbridge on Bank Holiday Monday.

Jack Harris can’t be recalled from his Faversham loan before 28 days, which leaves United short up front. Ashley Miller and Ben Greenhalgh are options but Stones could do with someone in the mould of targetman May, who has impressed since signing from Bromley.

Boss Jay Saunders said: “I’m waiting on the physio but I’ve got a feeling Jay’s looking at four-to-six weeks out.

“It’s typical that we’d just loaned out Jack Harris. He rang straight away but we can’t get him back in the first 28 days. If we can’t get someone in, we might have to look at setting up differently.”

Stones go into the Canvey game second in the Ryman League Premier Division, three points behind Margate. Steve Watt is pushing for a recall in defence after a slight groin injury, while James Rogers, Alex Brown and Jack Parkinson are battling for two spots in central midfield.
