Captain Ben Williams is winning his battle to be fit for Maidstone Rugby Club’s Intermediate Cup regional final.

Williams was one of several injured players left out of last weekend’s 15-10 London 2 South East win over Beckenham.

Maidstone go to Tunbridge Wells on Saturday before hosting Chiswick in the cup next weekend, when victory would leave them one win away from the national final at Twickenham.

Coach Paul Hathaway will check on Williams’ injured ankle before naming the side to face Wells.

Hathaway said: “Ben’s progressing well, as are the other injured players.

“There will be more back this weekend and we’ll aim to put out the strongest side we can against Tunbridge Wells.

“We don’t want to rush anyone back who isn’t 100% because there’s still a lot to play for."
