Maidstone United manager Jay Saunders calls for more noise at the Gallagher

Jay Saunders has urged the Gallagher Stadium crowd to get behind Maidstone when they need them most.

The place erupted when Alex Finney scored an injury-time winner against Chester on Saturday but before that it had been pretty quiet as the visitors set out to frustrate.

More and more often teams are turning up to make life difficult and that's when Stones need the backing of their home fans.

Boss Saunders said: "We had the Guiseley and Gateshead games where we threw away points and the Enfield draw here in the FA Cup and it was like the end of the world around the club, it was like we’d just got relegated or something.

"You have to be realistic. Let’s be honest, Chester have come, Gateshead and Guiseley have come here and tried to stop us playing and when you look at that, you think it shows how far we’ve come.

"Only a year ago it was our first year up and teams were coming here and we were getting turned over quite comfortably.

"Now it’s a lot different. It is going to be frustrating at times but people have got to stick with us.

"I thought the crowd were really quiet up until when we scored and we don’t need that, we need people behind us.

"Away from home the support’s been fantastic with regards to the noise.

"We really need that noise behind the boys.

"If they are having a bad time, get behind the boys and get everyone pulling in the same direction.

"If we do that, there’s no reason why we can’t go on and keep nicking wins."
