Maidstone boss Jay Saunders believes he has replaced Kevin Lokko with even better players.

Defender Lokko returns to the Gallagher for the first time since his controversial exit when he visits with league leaders Dagenham & Redbridge today (3pm).

He joined Stevenage after the League 2 club triggered a release clause days before the new season but was immediately sent on loan to Dagenham for a year.

United have questioned the actions of the two clubs but Lokko’s departure at least allowed them to sign Alex Wynter from Colchester and Alex Finney from QPR.

Saunders said: “Kevin did well for us. He’s a young lad who made a decision and I don’t think a lot of it was necessarily down to him.

“I think he’s been told one thing and something else has happened.

“I’m not happy with how it’s all come about but what can you do?

“Something looks like it’s gone on between the two clubs but who knows?

“No disrespect to Lokko but I think we’ve signed two very good players in his place.

“I don’t want to kill Kevin but I think we’ve done a good deal getting Alex Wynter and Alex Finney in.

“I think Alex Wynter’s getting better every game and Alex Finney had a great start and he’s back available to train after his groin injury.

“We’ve certainly got two more experienced players in.

“I think Lokko’s going to be a very good player but I can see why Stevenage have given him another year at this level because I think he needs it but I’m pleased with what we’ve got in as his replacements.”
