Maidstone United left-back Joe Anderson showing his quality after Tom Mills' exit

Joe Anderson has filled the gap left by Tom Mills in Maidstone’s defence.

Long-serving Mills made almost 350 appearances in seven years before joining Margate in the summer.

He couldn’t commit to daytime training so United turned to former Bromley left-back Anderson, who perhaps hasn’t had the credit he deserves.

Stones boss Jay Saunders: “A lot of people have spoken about Zavon Hines coming in but I think Joe Anderson, to replace someone like Millsy, that isn’t easy.

“Millsy had been here a long time and won player-of-the-year and manager’s player I don’t know how many times.

“No disrespect but I don’t think anyone’s really speaking about him now, which shows you what sort of job Joe’s done.

“He’s been great in the changing room and he’s a very good player.

“He’s probably the one that’s gone under the radar.

“We didn’t want to lose Millsy or Alex Flisher but we’re very fortunate in that we’ve been able to get good replacements and the squad we’ve assembled is very good.”
