Maidstone United’s new signing George Porter says he’s grown as a man and a player.

Porter was previously with the Stones in 2015 under Jay Saunders, following his departure from Dagenham, but played just a handful of games and had stints at Welling and Bromley before being hit with a 12-month ban for betting on matches.

A year ago Porter was suspended from the game after placing 473 bets on football matches. His early guilty plea meant his ban was reduced from 15 months to 12, with a fine cut to £750.

Porter has been in training with the Stones over the summer and following the end of his ban his signing was announced prior to the weekend.

Speaking to the club, Porter said: “It was a few years back when I was previously here and it was definitely different circumstances back then. I think I have grown as a player, grown as a person really and it’s brilliant here.

“I have played against Maidstone a few times in the past and it is a brilliant club, the supporters, the stadium, the set-up.

“The lads have welcomed me into the squad, it’s a good group of boys and I am really looking forward to getting going.”
