Maidstone have won the Kent Senior Cup for the 19th time after beating Folkestone on penalties.

The final, at the Gallagher Stadium, went straight to spot-kicks after a goalless 90 minutes.

Blair Turgott, Jai Reason, Reece Prestedge and Michael Phillips all scored from the spot for United while Sam Hasler hit the bar and Kieron McCann fired over as Jay Saunders’ side won the shoot-out 4-2.

Folkestone had the best of a quiet start, getting into some good areas in the final third, and it took Maidstone a while to get going.

Once they did they carved out a series of chances to take the lead in front of their home fans.

Jack Paxman was involved in much of their best work, catching the eye with his range of passing, and it was his ball that released Andre Coker who cut inside but saw his shot blocked by man-of-the-match Tim Roberts.

Seconds later Paxman was denied by Roberts when trying to dink the ball over Invicta’s keeper, then a lovely move featuring Coker, Paxman and Tom Wraight ended with Jamar Loza hitting the bar after chesting down a cross.

Alex Finney forced a double save from Roberts by the near post after meeting a free-kick from Jai Reason, while Coker wiped out the defence with a superb spin but thumped the ball over the bar.

At the other end Lee Worgan got down well to keep out Sam Hasler’s deflected free-kick and from the corner Joe Taylor’s header landed on the roof of the net.

Invicta finished the half with a good spell of possession but Johan ter Horst - on his return to the Gallagher - fired wide.

Loza’s header from a Wraight cross was held by Roberts early in a second half that was slow to take off.

At the other end, Worgan parried Kieron McCann’s strike while Ade Yusuff was inches away from putting Invicta in front after collecting Jerald Aboagye’s cross.

It wasn’t a classic as the game headed for penalties although Maidstone substitute Turgott tried to change that with a 20-yard shot that came off Roberts with no one following in.
