Michael Scott will represent the Under-18 England Schools' squad at Wembley

Michael Scott’s dream will come true when he steps out at Wembley as part of this season’s Under-18 England Schools’ squad.

Scott, who is a sixth-form student at Maidstone-based Maplesden Noakes School, found out he had been selected on Tuesday after coming through an extensive series of trials at Lilleshall National Sports Centre.

The right-back has represented the Kent Schools Under-18 squad and made his debut for Chatham in Ryman League Division 1 South last season.

The England squad will train at Villareal during the February half-term. They will then play in Centenary Shield matches against Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland before completing their programme against France at Wembley Stadium on June 13.

The 17-year-old said: “I was over the moon when I found out. It is one of the only opportunities you get to play for your country. It came as a bit of a surprise but I thought I’d done enough to get through.

“They don’t normally pick many people who are in their first year and that was playing on the back of my mind.

“Playing at Wembley will mean the world to me. It doesn’t get better than that in my eyes. I’ll be going out and singing the national anthem and I think I’ll probably end up crying.”

John Coles, the long-serving manager of Kent Schools Under-18 squad, said: “This is a real honour for Michael and for everyone involved in schools’ football in Kent.”
