Darren Smith has rejoined Chatham

Maidstone v Boreham Wood

MAIDSTONE United go into tonight's home Ryman League Premier Division game against Boreham Wood without new signing Darren Smith who has rejoined Chatham.

Smith only moved to the Stones three weeks ago, but he has decided to return to Ryman League Division 1 side Chatham where he had been captain.

Joint Stones manager Alan Walker said: "He originally moved to the club for the challenge, but having seen our squad and experienced the football at this level he has found the change of football too much of a challenge.

"He's been brave enough to admit it so we have allowed him to go."

Walker believes the Stones have enough cover without having to sign anyone else.

He said: "We have Aaron Lacy available for Wednesday night, having now recovered from his injury, but both Lloyd (Hume)and myself feel that Jimmy Brodie could also be an option in that position and it's something we'll talk over."

Stones captain Ben Lewis will miss tonight's game throgh suspension.

Victory would see Maidstone move out of the relegation places for the first time this season.
