A MAN has given football memorabilia worth around £20,000 to Maidstone United Football Club.

Fred John Calvert, 82, was sifting through his possessions last year when he came across a collection of footballing medals, including one believed to be from Maidstone’s Kent League championship winning side in 1920/21, and an England amateur cap from the same era.

The memorabilia belonged to his father, also known as Fred, who played for Maidstone from 1902.

Fred decided to donate the collection to the present-day club, in the hope that someone would be able reveal more information about the medal. However, the club’s archives from that era are missing and chairman Paul Bowden Brown is appealing for football fans with long memories to help shed some light on the subject. Anyone who can help is asked to call Maidstone United on 01622 749911.
