Maidstone boss Jay Saunders is preparing to start contract talks with his squad.

Saunders, who hopes to add to the loan signing of striker Nathan Elder in time for the trip to Canvey Island on Saturday, wants futures resolved.

Tom Mills, Alex Flisher, Jack Parkinson, Lee Worgan and Alex Akrofi are the only players already contracted for next season.

Teenage midfielder Charley Robertson is among those who will be offered a new deal.

Saunders said: “It’s in my thoughts to start discussing contracts. There’s a few I need to talk to but it’s difficult at the moment with the games coming thick and fast. I’ll get around to it in the next few weeks.

Jack Parkinson has joined Dover Picture: Martin Apps

“I don’t believe there will be major changes in the summer, it’ll be a case of adding two or three. We just need to add a bit of quality – that’s what we did this season.

“I know people were disappointed because we didn’t sign massive names but everyone we’ve brought in has done well. It also depends what league we’re in who we sign.”

Saunders was talking to three strikers – including a Football League player – and expects to have two in place for Canvey.

United, second in the Ryman League, Premier Division, have lost Flisher and Jay May to injuries while top scorer Frannie Collin (sickness) is a doubt for the weekend.

Saunders said: “We need a big man and someone who’s going to score goals. Jay could be back in two weeks but if I can get someone in for a month, I won’t have to rush him.”

Chris Piper (sickness) is the other doubt for the visit to struggling Canvey.
