MAIDSTONE United lost 2-1 at home to AFC Wimbledon after a disastrous opening 10 minutes saw them gift the Dons a 2-0 lead on Saturday.

Just 58 seconds were on the clock when Ben Lewis was harshly adjudged to have deliberately handled a ball he only had a fraction of a second to react to.

Mark DeBolla scored from the spot and eight minutes later it was 2-0 when Tony Finn headed home at close range from a corner.

At this point a thrashing looked on the cards, but United hit back when Alex Tiesse's header came back off the crossbar and Mo Takaloo turned in the rebound.

For the next hour, United were on top. Takaloo had a goal disallowed for offside and Ben Lewis hit the bar, but the odds shifted dramatically in the home side's favour when Dons striker Daniel Webb was sent off for a studs up tackle on debutant Connor Hagan.

But the Stones failed to make their numerical advantage count and the momentum shifted decisively on 66 minutes when Hagan was shown a second yellow card just two minutes afer his first booking.

The dismissal transformed the game and, with their confidence restored, Wimbledon dominated the remaining quarter of the match.
