John Still faces his old club tonight when Maidstone host Dagenham in a pre-season friendly at the Gallagher.

It's a meeting of two sides who mean more to Still than any other.

He won the first of his three Conference titles with the Stones in 1989, returning to the hotseat as head of football 30 years later.

In between, Still - a Dagenham fan - had three spells in charge at Victoria Road, taking the Essex club all the way to League 1.

Still is good friends with Daggers boss Peter Taylor and is tipping them to go well in the National League this season.

He said: "Peter Taylor is a very, very good friend of mine.

"They've got great investment, it's going to give them a great chance, which gives me a lot of pleasure because, as everyone knows, I'm a Dagenham supporter.

"The two promotions I had at Dagenham were extra, extra special because I support them.

"To get them into the Football League and then into Div 1, Dagenham were playing league games against Sheffield Wednesday, Brighton and Southampton - it was incredible.

"It was Maidstone who gave me my first chance of a big club.

"They could have gone for someone else but they gave me a chance and helped me have the sort of career I've had.

"So I've always looked out for Maidstone, I've always talked to Bill Williams and I always want them to be successful.

"Luton's the same, because of the success there, but Maidstone's important for me because they gave me my first chance."
