Welling are still waiting for their first Vanarama Conference victory of the season after a late equaliser denied them three points on Saturday.

Visitors Woking equalised with nine minutes left through substitute Adam Newton, ironically just when the visitors looked to have been running out of steam.

Garry Hill's men had dominated the first half but they somehow trailed to Harry Beautyman's second goal of the season.

Woking could have scored twice in a minute midway through the first half but Theo Lewis' near-post shot was turned onto the post by keeper Lee Butcher and the resulting corner was headed off the line by Beautyman.

It took Welling over half an hour to register their first effort on goal but it was quickly followed by the opening goal on 33 minutes. Jake Gallagher's perfect through ball sent Beautyman, who was comfortably onside, clear of the Woking defence and he lobbed keeper Aaron Howe before slotting into an empty net.

Woking never had the same fizz or intensity to their play after the break, even when switching to a 3-4-3 formation for the final 20 minutes.

Just after the hour, Welling substitute Barney Williams crashed a 40-yard drive just wide of the upright and with 19 minutes left Tyrone Marsh shot weakly at Howe when put through by Gallagher.

It was to prove a crucial miss for Jamie Day's men as one long free-kick into the penalty area was headed down nine minutes from time and Newton ghosted in to nod home.

Welling travel to Eastleigh on Monday before hosting Adrian Pennock's Forest Green Rovers on Saturday.
