Maidstone United have signed a striker who was linked with Premier League West Ham in the January transfer window.

Dumebi Dumaka joins from Ryman League Premier Division Grays and is set to be available for United’s National League South game at Bishop’s Stortford on Saturday.

The 22-year-old has scored 23 goals this season, attracting interest from the Hammers as well as Ipswich, Fleetwood and Cambridge, as pro clubs search for the next non-league star.

Maidstone manager Jay Saunders said: “We’ve made no secret about wanting to add to our striking options if the right player came along.

“That search was intensified in the last week or so with Alex Akrofi, Adam Birchall and Jay May all suffering from either illness or injury.

“DD is someone we’ve kept an eye on. He’s a proven goalscorer in Ryman Prem and has it about him to make a mark at National South.

“You don’t get Premier League and Championship clubs taking an interest for nothing. We’ll see how he gets on with us between now and the end of the season and take things from there.”
