Body found in River Medway believed to be Ryan Hughes

A body found in a river is believed to be missing teenager Ryan Hughes.

Police were called to the River Medway near Aylesford at 10.35am today.

The fire service and paramedics also attended and a teenage boy was pronounced dead at the scene.

Formal identification has not yet taken place but the family of Ryan Hughes, who was reported missing on February 17, have been informed.

The death is not being treated as suspicious and a report will be prepared for the coroner.

After the 17-year-old was reported missing from his home in Eccles near Aylesford, the village joined forces in a campaign to help find him.

Businesses gave over CCTV to police leading police to issue an appeal with an image of the former Oakwood Park Grammar pupil walking through Aylesford high street on the night he disappeared.

Posters have been shared around the village and in the days after he went missing a large scale search was launched in the river.
