A young Aylesford girl suffering from life-limiting cystic fibrosis has had one of her wishes granted by a charity.

Juliana Downes met her hero Rob Brydon and enjoyed lunch with the comedian and TV star.

The charity, Taylor Made Dreams, based in East Sussex, arranged a date with the celebrity at the Hotel Du Vin in Tunbridge Wells.

Mr Brydon, who has appeared in the BBC sitcom Gavin and Stacey and presents comedy panel show Would I Lie To You?, spent two hours with the family.

Juliana has chronic cystic fibrosis which affects the digestive system so she does not absorb proteins or fats sufficiently.

This means she has to take a tablet each time she consumes anything containing fat or protein – about 25 tablets per day.

The condition stops the movement of salts around the body and causes mucus build-up, noticeably in the lungs.

The 15-year-old, of Teapot Lane, has to complete two sessions of chest physio a day to clear this build-up.

Her mother, Wendy, said: “She realises she has got a life-limiting, and now life-shortening, disease, but she still takes every day as it comes.”

Juliana’s condition has now deteriorated to the point she can no longer attend her school – Aylesford School Sports College.

The teenager has been on a quest to raise £10,000 to fund an outdoor space at the Tunbridge Wells Hospital in Pembury, which she hopes will be used by patients and staff.

Suzi Mitchell, founder of Taylor Made Dreams, added: “We are deeply grateful to Rob Brydon for his kindness in meeting one of Juliana’s wishes.

“He was very generous with his time and he helped to create some very precious memories for the family.”
