An air fryer almost caught alight after being left on a hob which was accidentally switched on.

Kent Fire and Rescue Service issued a warning after a crew was sent to the home in Keats Road, Larkfield, last Thursday (August 10).

Crews wearing breathing apparatus used a hose reel jet to cool the appliance, which was smoking, before ventilating the property with a high-pressured fan.

Two people were checked over by paramedics as a precaution after breathing in smoke.

A spokesman from the fire service said: “We are reminding people to keep cooking areas clean and clear of anything which could catch alight – such as tea towels, washing baskets, oven gloves, or other appliances.

“It’s also important not to use hobs, grills, or ovens as additional storage space, as it could be easy for them to be switched on accidentally.”
