A fund has been set up in memory of 12-year-old scout Charlie Girling.

The Maplesden Noakes schoolboy, who had been in Finland with the 1st Aylesford Scout Group for an international convention, died suddenly on Sunday, July 24.

Now money is being raised in his name to help other youngsters.

An introduction on the page for the fund, on website JustGiving, states: "Charlie had been part of 1st Aylesford since the age of six and the family would like to raise money so that the scout group can continue to develop and offer local children the fantastic opportunities in scouting that Charlie had."

Among the projects the group has been raising money for is an appeal for a new scout hut in Forstal Road.

Although planning permission was granted several years ago, an estimated £350,000 was needed to build it.

On the JustGiving page, some donors suggested that the finished building be named after Charlie.

Maidstone United fans held a minute of applause for Charlie Girling

Events were held to remember the youngster in his hometown of Aylesford and in Maidstone last week.

Dozens of balloons were released by family and friends at Ferryfield in Hall Road on Thursday evening.

Then on Saturday, Maidstone United fans paid their respects to the football fan with a minute's applause during their first game of the season at The Gallagher Stadium.
