The M20 was closed in both directions due to a police incident.

The motorway was shut between junction 4 for Leybourne and junction 5 for Aylesford.

Kent Police's Roads Policing Unit tweeted shortly before 7pm: "M20 temporarily closed whilst we deal with an incident between jct 4-5 coastbound and 5-4 London bound. TIA for your patience."

All lanes were reopened shortly after 7pm but drivers faced delays for more than half an hour before the road cleared.

Police have since confirmed it was to deal with a broken down lorry.
