Parts of the M20 will be closed throughout October to allow for bridge widening at junction 4 for Leybourne.

Lane one of the coastbound carriageway is currently closed overnight between junctions 3 for Borough Green and the M26 and junction 5 for Aylesford.

This lane closure will be in place until 9pm on Wednesday.

There is also an overnight lane closure on the London-bound carriageway between junctions 6 for Maidstone and 2 for Wrotham and Sevenoaks.

This will also be in place until Wednesday.

To add to this, the London-bound entry slip-road at junction 4 for Leybourne will be closed between 9pm and 5am from tonight for five nights.

The main disruption is set to take place this weekend however, with only one lane being open on the coastbound carriageway from 3pm on Saturday.

This will allow for a new part of the bridge to be brought in on a lorry in the outside lanes.

Starting on Saturday night, the London-bound carriageway will be closed between the slip roads at junction 4 between 8pm and 5am for two nights.

This is while the bridge beam is secured over the motorway.

While this closure is in place, traffic will be diverted up and down the slip-roads.

The A228 northbound, which crosses the motorway at this point, will remain open at all times for traffic from West Malling to Snodland and Medway.

There will be two diversions in place on the southbound carriageway over the motorway between 10pm on Saturday and 4am on Sunday.

Traffic will not be able to cross the motorway on the southbound carriageway from Medway to West Malling in this time.

Non-motorway traffic will be diverted via Leybourne Way, New Hythe Lane, and the A20 London Road.

London-bound motorway traffic will be diverted down the coastbound carriageway to junction 5 for Aylesford and then back onto the London-bound carriageway for junction 4.

A spokesperson for KCC said: "We have timed this work to ensure there will be minimal impact the travelling public.

"We apologise for any inconvenience caused by these works and we appreciate the ongoing traffic management will be inconvenient and particularly difficult for drivers coming from the Snodland direction.

"We are working hard to ensure the works will be completed as quickly as possible."
