Man dies after being hit by lorry near West Malling train station

A man in his 40s has died after he was hit by a lorry this morning.

The pedestrian from the Dartford area was pronounced dead at the scene following the collision on the southbound carriageway of the A228 near West Malling.

His next of kin have been informed.

The road was closed in both directions between Ashton Way and Tower View, Kings Hill, after police were called at 8.04am.

A 67-year-old man from West Malling has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.

He remains in custody.

The incident happened on a pedestrian crossing next to the access road for West Malling railway station.

The southbound carriageway was reopened at 3.21pm.
