A stretch of a busy motorway was closed this evening amid fears a man would jump from a bridge overhead.

Emergency services shut the M20 in both directions between J4 for A228/West Malling and J5 for Aylesford just before 9pm.

Kent Police confirmed officers were called after a man was spotted standing on a bridge over the carriageway, looking as if he were going to jump.

The teen was arrested yesterday.

A force spokesman said he was safely detained by officers who attended the scene.

Both carriageways were fully re-opened by 9.15pm.
