MP Tom Tugendhat has produced a guide to help workers who have lost their jobs following the closure of Southern Salads.

Administrators confirmed on Wednesday the firm, based in Tonbridge, has ceased trading with immediate effect.

More than 260 people have lost their jobs after the sudden closure of the family-run company, which supplied fresh salads to supermarkets, restaurants and travel chains across the UK.

Mr Tugendhat, MP for Tonbridge and Malling, says he is continuing to provide advice and support to the employees affected.

He is circulating a guide, explaining the options to those who have been made redundant.

Administrators, FRP Advisory have also produced a factsheet to all employees with
instructions on how to make a redundancy claim.

Mr Tugendhat said “This is a sad time for all employees who have lost their jobs, as well as friends and families. The closure happened very suddenly and will be a blow to Tonbridge.

“I’ve spent the day working with the administrators, Tonbridge Jobcentre, Tonbridge and Malling Borough Council and the directors of Southern Salads to establish what support is available. I’ve also produced a guide which I hope will be helpful to all.

“I’m particularly grateful to all the businesses and charities who have offered advice and job opportunities, and detailed of these opportunities are on my website. The level of support locally has been excellent and demonstrates what a caring community Tonbridge is."
