Burglary suspects arrested within one hour of house break-in in Westerham, Sevenoaks

A pair of suspected burglars were arrested within 45 minutes of a house break-in, after hiding from police in the woods.

Police patrols tracked down two men – aged 39 and 19 – shortly after the incident which took place in Westerham, Sevenoaks.

The men were detained after being pursued by police, where they abandoned a car and attempted to flee on foot.

At the time, police had been responding to an attempted burglary at a previous address, in London Road, Tonbridge, which was reported at 5.30pm on Tuesday, January 24.

Police were led to Hartley Road, in Westerham, when searching for the suspect's car and they witnessed what appeared to be another residential burglary taking place.

An Audi A4 was identified and pursued by several police vehicles.

The car was reported to have exceeded speeds of 100mph before it was found abandoned in Chipstead.

Police found two men hiding in a wooded area, who were arrested and taken into custody.

An investigation is being led by the Chief Constable’s Crime Squad.
