A suspected steering wheel thief is in custody following his arrest in Larkfield this morning.

Patrol cars and a police helicopter were dispatched to try and track down suspects amid reports of theft from a car in Carroll Gardens at around 4am this morning.

Following a search, one man was arrested.

Police seized tools and a BMW steering wheel at the scene.

A 27-year-old man remains in custody.
