A pair of swans trapped on a set of train tracks caused delays this afternoon.

Southeastern trains running along the Medway Valley Line are running later than scheduled due to the lines being blocked at Wateringbury at around 2.45pm.

The railway firm tweeted their followers to alert them to the incident and confirmed response staff are on their way to help free the swans and four cygnets.

Southeastern also arranged alternative transport for passengers between Paddock Wood and Maidstone West.

They tweeted: "Because of two swans trapped on the line at Wateringbury, the lines are blocked. Response staff are en route #MedwayValleyLine."

The RSPCA were called in and the tracks were clear at around 5.20pm.
