A gas leak was caused by a car that crashed in Strood.

The Mercedes saloon was abandoned by its driver and on its roof close to the entrance of Strood railway station on Sunday night.

Firefighters discovered the car just after 11pm. It had crashed into a fence surrounding a gas mains access point, causing a small gas leak.

A Strood firefighter said: "We were initially told there was possibly a person trapped in the car, but when we got there we found the car firmly planted up against the fence, and no one in there. The car was heavily damaged.
