Pedestrian hit by lorry in Canterbury Street, Gillingham, taken to London hospital by air ambulance

A man has been taken to hospital by air ambulance in a serious condition after being hit by a lorry.

Police and paramedics were called to Canterbury Street, Gillingham, at 12.24pm after reports of the collision.

A police spokesman confirmed the incident had taken place and the man who was a pedestrian was taken to hospital by the air ambulance.

A South East Coast Ambulance Service spokesman said: "We were called to Canterbury Street, Gillingham, at approximately 12.20pm today to reports of an RTC involving a vehicle and a person.

"The person was assessed and treated at the scene before being airlifted to the hospital in London in a serious condition."

Further details about the man's injuries have not been released.

Residents reported seeing the air ambulance land in Gillingham Park.

As of 5.45pm, more than five hours after the accident, the road remained closed.
